The Meta Keywords Tag Lives At Bing & Why Only Spammers Should Use It

I was happy. I was joyful. I thought the meta keywords tag had finally died last year. But Bing recently said that it does use it. After some back-and-forth, I can confirm further that it does, but as a signal for finding spammers, not for improving rank.

Why You Can’t Compare Google+ User Figures To Facebook & Twitter

Google announced that Google+ has 40 million users today. Woo-hoo! That’s nearly half what Twitter claims, right? And while it’s below Facebook’s 800 million, Google’s getting there, right? Wrong. The number simply can’t be compared to Facebook and Twitter.

Google Shuttering Buzz In Favor Of Google+; Farewell To Labs

Buzz was a great learning experience, says Google, but in a few weeks it will be shut down and all such efforts will be focused on Google Plus. The move will likely come as no surprise to Google-watchers, who noted that Buzz integration with Google+ was minimal. Additionally, the Google Labs page, as previously announced, will disappear after today.

“We learned a lot from products like Buzz, and are putting that learning to work every day in our vision for products like Google Plus,” Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product at Google, wrote in a blog post.

In May Google launched Google Music, a cloud-based streaming music app that allows for music backups and streaming to phones and other devices.  Rumors have been swirling that Google will use this product to create an online MP3 store to compete against Apple and Amazon.

The WSJ reports that while Google has been in licensing talks with all of the major record labels including Universal Music Group, Sony Music, Warner Music Group & EMI Group.  While Google has been in talks, not all have sounded fruitful.  If a Google Music store is launched, it  may not have the ability to offer music from the largest three labels as reports say Google is only close to a deal with EMI (artists include Katy Perry, Lady Antebellum and The Gorillaz).

Google Enables Call Tracking From Mobile Landing Pages

Google’s Click to Call program has been a huge success. About a year ago Google reported that it had 500,000 advertisers using Click to Call. (That number was repeated again today in a blog post.) And last year former Google Product SVP Jonathan Rosenberg said “Click-to-Call ads are generating millions of calls every month.”

Calls and call metrics are increasingly important to Google because they’re a form of “offline” conversion tracking that provides more visibility on the true efficacy of keywords and campaigns. Selling calls also enables Google to drive phone-based leads, which are more qualified and often of higher value than clicks.
